⚠️ WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! ⚠️

Amaze! Amaze! Amaze!

I swear to god I don't expect anything but THIS MOVIE GIVES ME EVERYTHING. The best sci-fi movie I've ever watch. The most fun I ever got from watching a movie. I love it so much I'd adore it for the rest of my life.

For context, PHM (short for Project Hail Mary cuz I'm lazy) is a story about a school teacher in space, but doesn't really remembers what he's doing there. Slowly but surely he started to remember, who and where he is, why is he alone, thinking-thinking and thinking until he encounter a weird alien spacecraft.

First, let's talk about the story- and the book a little bit. Project Hail Mary is an adaptation from a novel with same title, written by Andy Weir. I don't know much about the books, nor the writers, but people said his stories are great. I heard that he himself is not a scientist or majoring in stuff related in science and space, but he do research for his writings. Asking experts here and there to make a great story. That's for the books, and his effort reflects too in the movie.

Sometimes there's sci-fi that's kinda lost on it's science part, or too unrealistic makes me think it fits more in other fiction category. Personally, I think a good sci-fi is a fiction who could take real proven science irl (at the time) and makes it like some kind of "what if" or hypothesis. For example, what if there is a star-eating lifeform and we need to make a near-lightspeed spaceship to find a cure for our sun? what if there's a different intelligent being who made out of rocks?

Aight that questions are basically the whole plot of this movie.

I Put The 'Not' In Astronaut!

Grace... my guy... I feel bad for him... Getting thrown outta space, forced to do something he's not ready to, yet everyone believes on him, respected as a hero. I think he knows he could do it. But he's scared of death, and failure. I don't want to call him a coward I mean if I'm as smart as him but forced to do, at heart, a suicide mission, I'd tried to run away too.

But here, no one really is a villain. Eva Stratt, who's in charge of the project, she's just doing her job. Saving the world, the people. There are only two options. Sacrifice 3 people, or wait till the world collapse and freeze to death. And she look at Grace, She knows no one better than him at the time and place. Carl, who probably took custody of his child with Grace, who catch him to get his ass to the ship. Again, that's his job.

On the other side, someone's star is dying too. ♫⋆。♪ ₊˚♬ ゚ (read: Rocky), left stranded alone in empty space. Watched his crews died- he didn't know why. Sad. Alone. Missing his mate, his home... until...

Grace Rocky Save Stars

Meeting of Grace and Rocky is really wholesome and cute. Thank god they're united by silliness. Loved the comedy here. They learned about each other, arrange missions together, fishing some Taumoeba, and many other moments. I got too deep and attached by their relationships it makes me cry hard when they saying goodbye to each other... Also don't forget the nerve-racking scene of Rocky saving Grace... I'm... sobs I'm okay...

I'm relieved that they got a good ending. From start to the end, really well plotted. Using flashback scene as we're feeling what Grace feels after taking pieces of his memory. We didn't even knew that he's forced to take the flight until halfway of thru the movie.

And the music oh my god it's the BEST. Here's the playlist.

Personal favorite (for soundtrack), Life is Reason, Amaze Amaze Amaze (epilog), and Time Go Fishing. Some are fun, some are tense, some makes u cry, and if you listen it in chronological order, it feels just like you're rewatching the movie. That's how peak of a banger it is...

Thumbs Up, Baby

I give this movie, 10/10 thumbs up 👎👎👎👎👎. I might be overrating it but idc this is my opinion and my experience. Well at first, I wanted to watch PHM just because there's Ryan Gosling innit. Plus it's sci-fi, my favorite book genre (I haven't read it tho so maybe next time on Literature Corner???). Kudos for him making Ryland Grace to life. Shoutout for other actors too and the Rocky puppeteer(s)...

Bonus!
